Volunteer Firefighters' Association
Community Involvement

The East Pierce Volunteer Firefighters' Association prides itself on not only protecting the community in which we live, but also in giving back to our friends, neighbors and citizens we serve.  The Association is involved in organizing, staffing, supporting various public education and community events throughout the year. We have highlighted just a few below.

EPVFA 2008Scholarship Recipient Ben OlearyEast Pierce Volunteer Firefighters Association Scholarship
It is the mission of the East Pierce VFA Scholarship program to reward students in our community by providing financial assistance in the form of need based college scholarships to further their education and serve the citizens with a career in public service.  These scholarships are awarded annually through White River, Bonney Lake and Sumner High Schools.  Further details and information can be obtained by contacting the East Pierce VFA Scholarship Committee or also refer to the calendar.
Ben O'Leary, Bonney Lake High School
senior received that school's 2008 scholarship.

Safety Trailer  Sumner Arts Festival 2008
East Pierce Fire and Rescue is one of the few fire districts in the state to be fortunate enough to have this valuable tool to deliver very important fire safety and prevention messages.  Local children and adults enter a pint-size home where messages such as the importance of exit drills in the home, smoke detector awareness, stop drop and roll, cooking safety, get low and stay low and others are shared and practiced.  East Pierce VFA is proud to partner with the District in staffing the trailer with volunteer firefighter and EMTs.  Thousands of children have received these important messages and practiced the drills. Contact the Public Education Coordinator with East Pierce Fire & Rescue for more information.

The Safety Trailer is available for school and community functions.

Dont forget Batteries TWICE A YEAR!!!! Smoke Detectors
Once again in a partnership with East Pierce Fire and Rescue our Volunteers canvass select neighborhoods to inspect and install smoke detectors.  This program is possible through a grant the District received that not only provided additional training on inspection and installation, but allowed us to install hundreds of smoke detectors to protect our community at no cost.  Prevention is where our job begins! Contact the Public Education Coordinator with East Pierce Fire and Rescue for more information.

Community CPR Classroom 2008  CPR Classes
Volunteer and career firefighters lead Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid in schools and monthly classes provided by our District.  These courses are provided in cooperation with the American Heart Association where students are challenged in a classroom setting through lectures and hands-on practical training. Contact  the Public Education Coordinator with East Pierce Fire and Rescue for more information.

The East Pierce Volunteer Firefighter's Association is a tax exempt non-profit organization made up of Volunteer Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians that live, work and serve in our community.  We rely solely on the revenues that are raised through fund raising events and the generosity of the community we protect.
