It is the mission of the East Pierce VFA Scholarship program to reward students in our community by
providing financial assistance in the form of need- based college scholarships to further their education
and serve the citizens with a career in public service.
These scholarships are awarded annually through White River, Bonney Lake and Sumner High Schools.
Starting this year, a new scholarship will be awarded tostudents who live within the fire district's boundary, but
attend school outside the district.
This year’s winners are:
White River High School senior Michael Burley
Bonney Lake High School senior Megan Hagwood
Sumner High School senior Kendall Theden
Two additional scholarships were awarded to children of East Pierce firefighters. They include:
Ali Ehle, daughter of Lt. Les Ehle
Rachel Goodlet, daughter of Assistant Chief Ed Goodlet
A special scholarship was awarded to:
Bonney Lake High School senior Shayna Moran
The East Pierce Volunteer Firefighters’ Association is pleased to present these worthy students with much needed financial aid. Congratulations to each of them.
In addition to the annual scholarships offered to the seniors at the three high schools, a new scholarship has been added for students living within the East Pierce jurisdiction, but attending schools in Puyallup, Fife, Orting, Buckley or Auburn. The scholarship, called the "Community Scholarship", will be offered to students who live within the boundaries of the fire district, but attend schools outside the district.
Students must meet the same criteria as the other scholarships to be eligible, including a minimum GPA of 3.0 and the intention to enter the fields of firefighting, law enforcement, medicine or social work. The biggest consideration is that the students must live within the East Pierce jurisdiction. To view a map of the district's boundaries, visit the East Pierce Fire and Rescue Web site at www.eastpiercefire.org/page.php?id=195.
Applications for Bonney Lake High School and Sumner High School students can be obtained through the school counselor's office. The other applications are available here:
